- The very first bioanalytical laboratory in Indonesia, enabling professional analysis of biomedical products

- Equipped with state-of-the-art devices for health biotechnology research, open for use to related organizations

Daewoong Foundation held the opening ceremony of ‘Bioanalytical Laboratory UI-DF’ on August 16, cofounded by Daewoong Foundation(DF) and Universitas Indonesia(UI) to activate bio-research in Indonesia and foster bio-field talents.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Ir. Penny K. Lukito, MCP, the head of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM), Dr. Dra. Lucia Rizka Andalucia Apt., M. Farm., MARS, the director of the Ministry of Health of Indonesia, Dr. Lukman S.T., M. Hum of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, SE., MA., Ph.D, the rector of Universitas Indonesia, and Chang Woo Suh, the head of Daewoong Infion, as representative of Daewoong Foundation.

The Bioanalytical Laboratory, located on the fourth floor of the Integrated Laboratory & Research Center Building of UI, aims to vitalize biological research in Indonesia and provide talented researchers with the best supplies. As the very first bioanalytical laboratory in Indonesia, it was designed under the strict standards of GLP (Good Laboratory Practice), to enable professional analysis of biological, medical, and recombinant protein products, with its state-of-the-art analytical equipment.

This is not the first time for Daewoong Foundation to participate in laboratory establishment. It has established and operated a biopharmaceutical laboratory in UI since 2018, continuously contributing to the development of the bio-industry of Indonesia.

The newly opened bioanalytical laboratory is planned to be open for use in various collaborative research, for non-profit organizations, government and private institutes in need of relevant research.

Chang Woo Suh, the head of Daewoong Infion who attended the ceremony as the representative of Daewoong Foundation, said “DF is pleased to encourage the development of the bio-industry of Indonesia by establishing the very first bioanalytical laboratory, in collaboration with UI, the best university in Indonesia,” he said. “We hope to continue working towards the development by building research infrastructure and supporting talented individuals.”

Prof. Ari Kuncoro, SE. MA. Ph.D, the rector of UI, said, “Thanks to the constant support of our old friend Daewoong Foundation for developing resources in the bio-field, the talents of UI have been able to build skills and conduct successful research in an advanced environment. In this bioanalytical laboratory, we will create remarkable research results to contribute to the development of the domestic bio-pharmaceutical industry and further make it an example of a successful coooperation model between Indonesia and Korea.”

Meanwhile, Daewoong Foundation has actively supported talent development in Indonesia from 2013. It has operated various training programs and donated 6.9 billion IDR scholarship to about 530 students of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Universitas Indoensia (UI), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Universitas Padjajaran (UNPAD), etc.

GLP(Good Laboratory Practice) is a system that manages the entire process of experiments regarding toxic including human resources, study environment, equipment, methods, etc. to guarantee the safety of medical, chemical products.
